Monuments in Hungary

Hungarians are proud of their country, their arts and heroes of the past. They celebrate each with monuments throughout towns and even the minor villages. Many of the figures sculpted are revolutionary or rebellion leaders from the Hapsburg era of the Austro-Hungarian empire. All of these characters however, met with heroic death.

During the communist era of Soviet occupation many propaganda monuments and statues were built. A lot of these no longer survive post independence but some can still be found in Statue Park in the Budapest outskirts or have been converted in meaning such as the Citadel Statue.
