Balatonfured by Lake Balaton
Balatonfured is a popular, vibrant resort town with a population of thirteen thousand, situated on the north shore of the Lake Balaton. It is considered to be the capital of the Northern lake shore and has significant yachting life.
The exclusive Esterhazy Beach can be found along the Tagore Promenade, in the distinguished holiday and recreational centre of the town, with aqua park and childrens’ and adults’ adventure pools, while the lively Kisfaludy Beach with its free parking lots and safe bicycle storage facilities is located in the eastern part of the town, on Aranyhíd (Golden Bridge) Promenade. Here the sports fields and sports events provide entertainment and recreation, also the playgrounds and a shallow-water lido area ensure a great time for families, while the numerous top-class catering establishments provide excellent gastronomic experiences.
The resort is also a favorite location for coarse fishing, carp being the most common catch. The temperature of the water is above 20 degrees Celsius from May to September. The quality of the water is excellent.
The town has two marinas, a string of carbonated mineral water springs, listed buildings from the middle of the 18th and the 19th centuries. The nearest famous village around Balatonfured is Tihany. Nearby visitors can enjoy playing golf.
The town also has a cave, called Loczy Cave named after the world-famous reasercher of Lake Balaton, Lajos Loczy. It is nearly 150 m long and 20 m deep cave. Open: 28th April - 30th September 10.00-18.00.
