Sopron wine region, West Hungary

More information

One of the most ancient wine regions of Hungary. The Sopron wine region lies on the foothills of the Alps in the north-western corner of the country. For centuries, the city of Sopron itself enjoyed thriving trade and until the 18th century Sopron was the largest wine trading centre in central Europe. The region's most famous wine is Kékfrankos. Although this is essentially a red wine region, Sopron does also produce some interesting whites.
