Neszmély wine tasting near Budapest

More information

Neszmély is a small wine region in northern Hungary, located on the banks of the Danube River 35 miles (55km) north-west of Budapest. Neszmely does not traditionally appear on the list of Hungary's prestigious wine regions, yet an increasing quantity of top-class wine is now being made here.

The tiny riverside town is home to the region's best-known winery. The winery's range of wines - particularly the whites made from Cserszegi Fuszeres, Irsai Oliver and Gruner Veltliner – have been attracting a great deal of local and international attention.

The most successful grapes in and around Neszmely are the aromatic white varieties. Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Irsai Oliver and Olasz Rizling (Welschriesling) are the most obvious examples. Although Irsai Oliver was originally developed as a table grape, it has thrived as a wine grape in Hungary, as well as areas of Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The ever-popular Chardonnay is also grown here.

We organise private wine tours to this region from Budapest, with wine tasting and lunch and a stop at the baroque town of Tata on the way back.

All day tour with wine tasting and private transport cost: 89 €/person

We can give discount on every additional person signing up.
