Lake Tisza (Hungarian: Tisza-tó) is the largest artificial lake in Hungary with so much to see and do. Located in the north east of the country. Its filling was finished in the 1990s, resulting a 127 km² lake. The lake is 27 km in length, with an average depth of 1.3 m and a maximum depth of 17 m; it contains 43 km² of small islands. Following the reservoir's completion, Hungarians began to flock to the site for holidays. As a result, tourist infrastructure has been developed on the reservoire and the government has designated it an official tourism destination.The lake (or reservoir) has a local ecology with a diversity of birds, plants, and animals. You can hire your own boat or if you prefer have a guided tour on small boats among these beautiful islands starting from Tiszafured or from Abadszalok.

It is worth visiting the Lake Tisza Ecocentre in Poroszlo where you can learn about the rich flora and fauna of the lake and the Tisza valley. Also the 2600 sq metre visitor centre has permanent exchibitions, a 3D showroom and a huge freshwater aquarium with a capacity of over 735 000 litres.
